Mark & Damian’s journey began at our 2016 conference where they met a number of Surrogacy agencies and fertility clinics. They first thought Canada was going to be their country of choice, but found the attention to detail and availability of well-screened surrogates left much to be desired. So they re-connected with a Californian agency in LA and by August 2016 were matched with a Surrogate. A month later they completed their IVF with San Diego Fertility Centre who transferred their first embryo in Feb 2017. While their surrogate experienced a premature membrane rupture at the 29 week mark, with the right support, all ended well and on 21 September 2017 they welcomed Isabel Rose. Mark will talk about the ups and downs and what they learnt along the way
Dr Hugh Ramsay is a gay Irish dad who engaged in altruistic gestational surrogacy with an Irish surrogate, Nicole. Because no Irish IVF clinic would assist, they all travelled to Canada for the egg donation, embryo creation and IVF transfer process. Hugh will share his extra-ordinary story of building a family in the face of legal hurdles
Gearoid and his partner Seamus embarked on an extra-ordinary surrogacy journey, initially working with multiple donors and a surrogate in Canada unsuccessfully. Shattered and having run out of embryos, they refused to give up their dream of parenthood. They switched to creating new embryos with a leading Californian IVF clinic. Drained of funds to afford a US surrogacy agency, they matched independently with an altruistic UK surrogate and flew her to California for the transfer. Now dads to 15 month old boy/girl twins, their story demonstrates initiative and doggedness in the face of adversity. Gearoid has become a spokesperson for Equality for Children – a group of parents lobbying for the right to have both legally recognised.
