Sydney Fertility Expo This Sat 17 August

To celebrate Families Through Surrogacy’s new branding of Growing Families, which occurred on 1 July, we have launched a weekly blog about all things Fertility-related, written by our Director and global expect Sam Everingham.

This first blog puts a focus on Sydney’s first Fertility Expo, to be held at Norths Leagues Club in Cammeray this Saturday 17 August.

The event will focus on Australian solutions to fertility issues. It will cover holistic approaches such as improving your fertility with diet and supplements, through to egg and sperm donor options as well as surrogacy. Leading lawyers, fertility professionals and other experts will be on hand to provide advice on everything from accessing superannuation to male infertility, endometriosis, chromosome assessment and of course surrogacy.

Surrogacy Australia will host a table to showcase their new Support Service for intended parents and surrogates looking to engage in domestic arrangements.

I will be running a few in-depth ‘couch sessions’ on the day. The first (11.30am) will be a discussion with Sydney egg donors Ashley Ford and Denise Erkens-Walsh, exploring what motivates them to give up their eggs repeatedly to make babies for strangers,  how they select recipients and how they cope when donor cycles are not successful.

The second session (1.30pm Saturday) will interview Sydney surrogate Julie Laherty and the mum she carried for Leah Ellis. Julie was a surrogate this year and gave birth to baby Lottie in May.

The first couple Julie connected with resulted in several failed transfers, but not wanting to give up, Julie embarked on her second journey with Leah & James who she had met online. Julie & Leah will talk about how many transfers they required to have success, what kept them going and when to look at switching IVF clinics.

Julie will discuss what motivated her to carry for a stranger and the incredible sense of achievement in being able to give Leah & James the ultimate gift.

You can book tickets here https://allaboutfertilityexpo.com.au/about-us  ($10) or simply come along on the day ($15)
