Auckland & Sydney: A Weekend of Community, Connection, and Shared Journeys

Auckland & Sydney: A Weekend of Community, Connection, and Shared Journeys

There’s something truly special about being in a room full of people who just get it. That’s exactly what we experienced this past weekend at our Auckland and Sydney events—two incredible days of connection, learning, and support that reminded us why we do what we do.

Auckland: A Room Full of Hope

On Saturday, March 8, we gathered in Auckland with intended parents, surrogates, experts, and families who have been through the journey. The room was buzzing with hope, curiosity, and the quiet relief that comes from finding others who understand the path you’re on.

It wasn’t just about getting the facts on surrogacy and egg donation. It was about hearing real stories—about the highs, the hurdles, and the deeply personal moments that make this journey so unique. Conversations flowed between sessions, connections were made, and by the end of the day, it felt less like an event and more like a growing family in itself.

Sydney: A Community That Shows Up

The very next day, on March 9, we did it all again in Sydney. The original flight from Auckland was cancelled due to storms in Queensland, forcing a last-minute rebooking on an early morning flight to make it back in time. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that when a community is this dedicated, nothing will stand in the way of showing up.

What stood out the most was the generosity of those willing to share their experiences—the parents who had been through it, the experts who are passionate about guiding others, and the individuals just starting out, finding reassurance in knowing they weren’t alone.

    The Power of Community

Every time we hold these events, we’re reminded of why Growing Families exists. It’s about more than logistics and legalities (though those are important too). It’s about people. It’s about creating a space where intended parents can ask the hard questions, where past parents can give back, and where no one has to feel alone in the process.

Surrogacy and egg donation can be complex, emotional, and at times, overwhelming. But with the right people around you, it’s also an incredibly hopeful and life-changing experience. Seeing the bonds that form at these events—the way strangers leave as friends, the way a shared story can spark confidence in someone else—reinforces why we’re so committed to this work.

To everyone who joined us in Auckland and Sydney—thank you. Your openness, your curiosity, and your willingness to support each other are what make this community so special. If you couldn’t make it this time, we can’t wait to welcome you at a future event. Click here to see our upcoming events.

Because when we come together, everything feels just a little bit easier. And that’s what family—however it’s built—is all about.
