Candice & Chris made the very difficult decision to leave their young sons, Beau 5 and Arlo 2 years of age, in the care of their grandparents, to travel to Ukraine during Covid for the birth of twins. With the introduction of flight caps, they became very worried when their return flight was cancelled and there were no other options to get their babies home and return to their young boys. Growing Families intervened on their behalf to get them home. By the time they finally made it to quarantine in Sydney, the couple were emotionally and physically exhausted, desperate to see their sons. Candice ultimately became an advocate for surrogacy law reform. She continues to raise awareness for surrogacy through media appearances and has authored a children’s book about surrogacy – The Pearl of the Black Sea for 3-8 year olds. Candice is passionate about supporting diverse families in WA.
